Different Methods of Job Training

Training is the process where an employee is made to acquire all the required skills, competencies and knowledge to perform his job well. Training provides benefits for both the organization and for the individual employees undergoing training. Basically there are two methods of training – cognitive and behavioral. While providing training the employers need to understand the pros and cons of each method and also its impact on trainees. The employers should also keep the employees background and skills in mind before giving training.

Cognitive Methods:
Cognitive methods gives theoretical knowledge to the trainees. The various methods used under cognitive training provides information to the trainees about the rules for how to do something, written or verbal information, demonstrate relationships among concepts, etc. Various methods used in cognitive approach are lectures, demonstrations and discussions. In this approach for training computer based methods like Intelligent Tutorial System (ITS), Programmed Instruction (PI), virtual reality are also used.

Behavioral Methods:
These methods are used to give practical training to the trainees. These methods are also used for skill development. The various methods that come under Behavioral approach are behavior modeling, business games, case studies, equipment simulations, in basket techniques and role pays.

The above are the two methods of training implemented in an organization.
