How Many Types of Braces are There for Teeth?

Braces are used for treating dental problems such as straightening of teeth, gaps between teeth, overlapping of teeth, irregular teeth structure, crowded teeth, etc. Due to these various applications, braces are widely being used in treatments. Traditional metal-wired braces are made of stainless steel which require ties to hold the arch wire in place, and newer self-tying brackets which reduce friction between the wire and the lot of the bracket.

“Clear” braces are an alternative to traditional metal braces which cover the teeth. These brackets are made of ceramic or plastic materials but these braces are more brittle than metal braces.

Titanium braces are like stainless steel braces but are lighter than them (though equal in strength). But these are more expensive than stainless steel braces.

Invisible braces, lingual braces, in man aligner braces are some of the methods for obtaining faster treatment to straighten the teeth. They are made of clear plastic or tooth colored ceramic to remain virtually invisible and they come under the group of progressive, clear, removable aligners.

Spring aligners are also an option which are less expensive and are used in less difficult cases. They align primarily the front six top and bottom teeth.

The latest ones are the smart braces which are used to reduce the duration of orthodontic therapy, and the related costs and discomfort to the individual.

A-Braces are also the latest ones and can be self-controlled by the user while adjusting the braces.

Every type of brace has its own application in treating the dental alignment problems, hence, as per the requirement the suitable braces can be used.
