Major Types Of Software

The collection of computer programs, procedures, and documentation that perform

different tasks on computer system can be called as software. Computer software is anything that can be stored electronically or in language of computer.

The major types of software are:

1. Programming software: The programming software provides tools such as text editors, compilers, interpreters, linkers, and debuggers. These tools are used to assist a programmer in writing computer programs and software using different programming languages. Programming software is one of the popular computer software.

2. System software: System software includes operating systems such as devise drivers, servers, windowing systems, and utilities. System software runs the hardware and computer system.

3. Application software: Application software is also called as end-user program. This software includes database programs, word processors, and spread sheets. The examples of application software are business software, databases and educational software.

4. Utility software: This type of computer software performs a small range of tasks. Utility software helps in management of computer hardware and application software. The examples of utility software are disk defragmenters, systems utilities and virus scanners.

The other different type of computer software is inventory management software, data back up software, and data recovery software.
